Lia Green, killed by father

Lia Green died on 30 August caused from injuries  by a severe blow to the abdomen.Richard Green (the father), 23 pleaded guilty to manslaughter two weeks into his trial at Preston Crown Court.  Lia's Mum Natalie Critchley aged 22 remains on trial for allowing, causing her daughters death, that she's denied doing. Richard had been on trial charged with murder and causing or allowing Lia's death. He denied both charges.

Emergency services were called to Lia's home after her parents said she was suffering from sickness and diarrhoea and was weak and falling asleep. She was pronounced dead on arrival, by the Royal Preston Hospital. The day after Lia's death Green was arrested. He told the police his daughter had fallen while  playing on the swings at a playground. Peter Wright, prosecuting, told the jury her death was "not some freak injury or terrible accident". He said it was a "blunt force trauma to her abdomen."

The jury was shown images of Lia's bruising around the neck, head, chest, abdomen and back. Many of the bruises were less than 48 hours old but some were older and evidence of repeated physical abuse!
